OUR SERVICE IS FOR GOD! And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (Deuteronomy 10:12)
We must always keep in mind that God is the same yesterday, today and forever! Scripture helps understand what God required of Israel and we can apply it to what God is requiring the church today.
What is service? Service is the performance of labor for the benefit of another; or at another’s command. Lamentably, we see in far too many instances today, Christianity has become just an intellectual process, so far as many are concerned. In other words, we have set out to read and learn more but, it in many instances, has not moved us to do more or serve more.
We have embraced the doctrines of Christianity without allowing the doctrines of Christianity to embrace us. In far too many instances, our walk does not match our talk. We have become hearers much more readily than we have become doers of the Word.
We say we have faith but our lifestyle does not illustrate our faith. Faith that neither changes a life or faith that doesn’t cause us to burn some energy for God, is not true, saving faith.
Jesus does not make apologies in calling for faithful service from all who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior.
John 17:18As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
Luke 6:46-49"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
To follow Jesus means to labor!
John 9:1-4As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
