Reverend Watkins retired after serving 21 years in the United States Army where he was assigned to many positions of ever-increasing complexity and responsibility throughout his career, ultimately reaching the rank of First Sergeant. He spent four years of his military service at the Pentagon in his home town of Washington, D.C. Before retirement, he served with the US Army Recruiting Center in Greenville, South Carolina. He is a graduate of The University of the District of Columbia where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He went on to earn yet another Bachelor of Science degree in Theology and Religion, this time from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He later attended Erskine Theological Seminary here in South Carolina, where he eventually received his Master of Divinity degree. Reverend Watkins is currently working towards his Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) degree from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Prior to his assignment as pastor of Friendship AME Church here in Clinton, Reverend Watkins served as pastor of Bethlehem AME Church in Belton, SC. Reverend Watkins is married to Dolores Christina (Chapman) Watkins, who is both an educator and a social worker. Together they are raising two beautiful and very active daughters, Jasmine (a senior in high school) and Charly (a sophomore). Both attend school in Anderson where the family lives,the parents work, and the daughters attend school.. Rev. Watkins was reassigned to Bethel A.M.E. Church in St. George. South Carolina on November 10th, 2007. Rev. Watkins was replaced as pastor by Rev. Casey J. Childs, II. This page will be updated as soon as possible. |
| Charles R. Watkins, Jr., received the call to the ministry while serving in the United States Army. He was licensed to preach in October of 1996, was ordained an itinerant deacon of the AME Church in 2002 and subsequently an AME itinerant elder in 2003. |
